Caitlin Clark Sidelined Again as Fever Face More Turmoil

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has been dealt another blow this season, as she’s set to miss Thursday night’s matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks due to a left groin injury.

Clark, who has become the face of the franchise since being drafted, reported discomfort to the Fever medical staff on Wednesday evening and was promptly sent for an MRI. While head coach Stephanie White has yet to reveal the results, she emphasized that Clark’s status will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

“It’s really going to depend on how she responds to treatment,” White said. “She’s shown time and again that she’s tough and heals quickly. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

This setback comes just as Clark had returned from a quad injury that forced her to miss five games earlier in the season. She managed to play only five more games before this latest injury sidelined her once again.

Despite the interruptions, Clark has been a standout performer, averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. However, the Fever have struggled to find their rhythm, currently sitting at a 7-7 record.

Clark’s shooting has also dipped recently, with a cold stretch from beyond the arc—making just five of her last 29 three-point attempts. In her most recent outing against the Seattle Storm, she went 0-for-6 from deep before exiting with the injury.

In response to Clark’s absence, the Fever have signed point guard Aari McDonald and made the tough decision to waive veteran DeWanna Bonner, who had joined the team on a one-year deal this offseason but missed the last five games due to “personal reasons.”

“We were thrilled when Bonner chose to come here,” said Fever GM Amber Cox. “But as the season went on, it became clear she didn’t feel it was the right fit. We tried to work through it, made lineup adjustments, but ultimately couldn’t find a solution that worked for everyone.”

Meanwhile, the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game rosters have been announced, with Clark earning a spot on Team WNBA alongside fellow Fever standout Aliyah Boston. The All-Star Game is set for July 20, where Team WNBA will clash with Team USA’s best.
