Their love, according to the book, was as intense as it was brief, leaving lasting marks on Musk’s heart and those around him.

From Hollywood Sets to SpaceX Launchpads

Their story began in 2012 on the set of Machete Kills, where Musk was invited to serve as a mentor. Heard, starring in the film, and Musk, the real-life visionary, shared an early connection. A year later, Amber visited SpaceX, and Musk personally gave her a tour in his Tesla.

But it wasn’t until May 2016, at the glitzy Met Gala, that sparks truly flew. Just weeks after the event, Amber filed for divorce from Johnny Depp. The first dates between the tech mogul and the Hollywood starlet were anything but ordinary—Amber surprised Musk at the Tesla factory on his birthday, and Musk jetted to Australia to visit her on the set of Aquaman. Musk later confessed to Isaacson that the breakup left him in “excruciating pain.” “It’s brutal,” he admitted. “I’m just a fool for love. I’m usually a fool, but especially when I’m in love.”

In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, Musk revealed, “She broke up with me more than I broke up with her, I think. I was really in love, and it hurt bad.”

Despite it all, the two remain on good terms. “I love him very much,” Amber told Isaacson. “Elon loves fire—and sometimes it burns him down.”
