John Foster Teases Plans to Make New Music With Jelly Roll

John Foster Hits the Ground Running After American Idol, Teases New Music and Nashville Plans

Just over a month after capturing America’s hearts as the runner-up on Season 23 of American Idol, John Foster is wasting no time diving into the next chapter of his career. The rising country star recently appeared on the Fable House podcast to share some exciting updates about what’s coming next.

“American Idol was incredible. It’s the reason I’m here today,” Foster reflected. “The show pushed my career further than I ever imagined. But at the end of the day, I’m not a TV guy—I’m a music guy.” With a clear sense of purpose, Foster revealed he’s already deep into writing new material and is in discussions about recording. “I’m heading back to Nashville soon, meeting with a lot of people, and we’re going to make a ton of music. I think people are really going to love it.”

What’s more, Foster says he’s genuinely excited about his own music—a rare feeling for the self-described perfectionist. “Usually I’m really hard on myself, but I’m confident and excited this time. When you work with the right people, especially these top-tier professionals in Nashville, they really bring out the best in you. I might actually end up liking my own stuff,” he laughed.

When asked if he might be teaming up with Jelly Roll’s record label—a possibility that has fans buzzing—Foster played it coy: “Maybe so.” His friendship with Jelly Roll blossomed during Idol’s 23rd season, where the “Save Me” hitmaker served as artist-in-residence. “There are a lot of great opportunities coming my way from different directions,” Foster admitted. “Nothing set in stone yet, but all really exciting. Jelly himself is a great guy and I’m lucky to have built a relationship with him.”

Foster isn’t letting any grass grow under his boots. He’s already made his Grand Ole Opry debut in Nashville—a lifelong dream for any country artist—and he’s set to take the legendary stage again later this summer. “It’s the greatest honor,” he said, clearly still riding high from the experience.

With new music on the horizon and Nashville calling, it’s clear that John Foster is just getting started—and country fans everywhere will want to keep their eyes (and ears) on what comes next.
