Trump Blasts Musk as “Train Wreck” After Billionaire Launches New Political Party in Fiery Showdown Over Debt Bill

In a dramatic escalation of their ongoing feud, former President Donald Trump lashed out at tech mogul Elon Musk after Musk announced the formation of a new political party in direct response to Trump’s controversial spending bill.

“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely off the rails, essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,” Trump posted on social media on July 6. “He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States.”

Musk unveiled the “America Party” on July 5, just one day after Trump signed his so-called “megabill” into law. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects the legislation will balloon the national debt by a staggering $3.4 trillion—a move Musk has fiercely condemned.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk declared on his platform, X. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

Trump, never one to shy away from confrontation, fired back at the idea of third parties. “The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats,” he wrote.

Despite being the world’s richest person, with an estimated fortune of $405 billion, Musk has previously been a major financial backer of Trump and the GOP, spending nearly $290 million to support their campaigns. Early in Trump’s presidency, Musk even led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), pushing to slash federal agencies.

But the alliance has soured. Musk has become one of the loudest critics of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which slashes taxes, boosts military and immigration spending, but also makes deep cuts to Medicaid and raises the debt ceiling by $5 trillion.

Musk has gone so far as to threaten to bankroll primary challengers against any Republican who supported the bill—a bill that passed with all but two House Republicans and three Senate Republicans voting in favor.

President Donald Trump speaks to members of the media upon his arrival at Morristown Airport, in Morristown, New Jersey, U.S., July 6, 2025.

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” Musk fumed before the bill was signed. “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

The war of words comes after Musk reportedly tried to mend fences with Trump, even apologizing for harsh comments made during his stormy departure from the administration last month. But the truce was short-lived.

Musk’s bold move to launch a third party comes just weeks after he hinted at stepping back from political donations to focus on his companies, Tesla and SpaceX.

As the battle lines are drawn, America’s political landscape may be on the verge of a seismic shift—one fueled by two of the nation’s most powerful and unpredictable figures.
