Elon Musk Ramps Up Social Media Outrage After DOJ Denies Existence of Epstein Client List: “This Is the Final Straw”
Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, ignited a storm of controversy on social media early Monday after the Department of Justice reportedly concluded that there is no “client list” linked to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The explosive topic, which has fueled speculation and conspiracy theories for years, prompted Musk to unleash a series of memes, pointed comments, and direct criticism aimed at government officials and the justice system as a whole.
The uproar began when Axios reported on a newly released DOJ memo, which stated there was no evidence that Epstein maintained a so-called “client list” of powerful individuals or that he was murdered in prison. Instead, the memo concluded, Epstein died by suicide, echoing statements made by FBI Director Kash Patel, who has repeatedly dismissed alternative theories about Epstein’s 2019 death.
Musk, 54, took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his outrage, suggesting that the federal government was actively shielding Epstein’s associates from scrutiny. He responded to a post by the user “Autism Capital,” referencing Attorney General Pam Bondi’s February claim that she had the elusive client list “sitting on my desk right now to review.” Musk’s reply was terse but ominous: “This is the final straw.”
Throughout his online tirade, Musk didn’t just target the Biden administration; he also took aim at the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein investigation. In one meme, Musk mocked the lack of accountability, posting an image labeled “the official Jeffrey Epstein Pedophile Arrest Counter,” alongside the caption, “What’s the time? Oh look, it’s no-one-has-been-arrested-o’clock again…”
Musk’s frustration was further amplified by the DOJ memo’s assertion that there is “no credible evidence … that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals.” The billionaire questioned how this could be reconciled with the fact that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate, was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking minors and conspiracy. “So … umm … then what is Ghislaine Maxwell in prison for? Stuff like this does not improve people’s faith in government,” Musk wrote, echoing the confusion and skepticism of many online observers.

To drive his point home, Musk retweeted a meme featuring a stoic-looking Maxwell with the caption: “Why is she the only one going to prison? Where’s all the men that had sex with those underage girls?” The implication was clear: If Maxwell was convicted for trafficking minors to powerful men, why have none of those men been named or prosecuted?
Musk’s commentary didn’t stop there. He appeared to endorse far-right influencer Mike Cernovich’s theory that a cabal of elite pedophiles secretly controls the highest echelons of global society. Cernovich had posted, “There is a chain of command on this planet, and elite pedophiles are at the very top. Even above Trump. Way above him.” Musk responded by referencing Iain Banks’ novel “The Player of Games,” suggesting that Banks’ depiction of an alien society ruled by hidden elites might be a veiled critique of Earth’s own power structures. “Perhaps it was a critique of Earth,” Musk mused.

The tech mogul also responded to a video clip of former President Donald Trump promising to release the Epstein files if re-elected, writing simply, “Anytime now,” in a tone dripping with skepticism.
Musk’s involvement in the Epstein saga is not new. He has previously highlighted the connections between Epstein and several of his business rivals, and has not shied away from calling out what he sees as hypocrisy or cover-ups. Last month, during a heated feud with Trump over the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” Musk posted—and later deleted—a message claiming, “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” The post was soon taken down, and Musk later admitted that he may have overstepped.
The relationship between Trump and Epstein has long been a subject of public fascination. Trump, now 79, has acknowledged that he was once friendly with Epstein, but has insisted that their relationship soured after a 2004 bidding war over a Palm Beach property. In 2007, Page Six reported that Epstein was banned from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club after allegedly making inappropriate advances toward an 18-year-old masseuse. “Her father found out about it and went absolutely apes—,” a source told the publication at the time. “Epstein’s not allowed back.”
Epstein, who was convicted of sex offenses in 2008 and arrested again in 2019 on federal charges of sex trafficking minors, was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell on August 10, 2019. His death was ruled a suicide, but the circumstances—malfunctioning cameras, sleeping guards, and the high-profile nature of his alleged crimes—have fueled endless speculation and conspiracy theories.
Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite and Epstein’s close companion, was convicted in 2021 of recruiting and grooming underage girls for Epstein and his associates. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2022. Despite her conviction, the identities of the men who allegedly abused the girls remain shrouded in secrecy, a fact that continues to frustrate and anger both the public and prominent figures like Musk.
The ongoing lack of transparency and perceived lack of accountability in the Epstein case has become a rallying point for critics of the justice system and government institutions. Musk’s social media outburst is just the latest—and perhaps most high-profile—expression of that frustration.
Every morning, the NY POSTcast dives into the day’s headlines, offering a mix of politics, business, pop culture, true crime, and more. As the Epstein saga continues to unfold, it’s clear that questions about power, privilege, and justice remain far from settled.
