A devoted father of three died after being struck by lightning earlier this month.

Police said Spencer Loalbo was struck by a lightning bolt while golfing with his dad in Gunter on Sunday, June 8, according to ABC affiliate WFAA. Authorities described the fatal incident as a “freak accident.”

Spencer’s death “shook the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him,” according to a statement shared by family through a GoFundMe campaign.

Kaylee Loalbo, Spencer’s wife, remembered her husband for his acts of kindness, telling WFAA that her husband was known for feeding people who are unhoused, donating to those in need and giving rides to strangers.

Meanwhile, his 8-year-old daughter Evelynn said she enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing dress-up with her dad.

“I know that he’s with God and all of his problems have gone away and he’s really happy,” she told the outlet.

Family described Spencer in the statement on GoFundMe as “a devoted follower of Jesus, a loving husband, a proud father, a cherished son, a loyal friend, and a selfless giver.”

“His life was a reflection of his faith — serving others, uplifting those in need, and always putting his family and friends before himself,” read a message on the fundraiser. “He loved deeply. He gave freely. He believed wholeheartedly.”

More than $115,000 has been raised through the GoFundMe campaign since it was launched on Tuesday, June 10. The funds will help the family with “unexpected medical, funeral and living expenses” following Spencer’s death.

In an update shared on Friday, June 20, Kaylee said “the outpouring of love has just been unbelievable.”

“My heart is so broken, but God, the girls, and all the kind words and support keep me going,” she wrote. “Please keep praying for me and the girls as we try to figure out life without our guy. We need it.”
